The Story of the Perfect Chair®

At Interactive Health, our vision was to create a chair so extraordinary it would be called The Perfect Chair.

With that as the inspiration, our Director of Design, David Potter, charted a course to create this dream chair. By artfully blending contemporary architecture with old world design, we laid the foundation for the chair's bold yet classical look. We then integrated our unique zero gravity technology to create a complete seating concept that transcends common comfort. The result is a chair that uniquely and beautifully combines form and function-it's the perfect chair.

"When given the opportunity to design a 'perfect chair,' I knew my fundamental approach must be based upon classically designed seating that reveals human proportion," said Potter. "These are basic, innate visual cues that subconsciously tell us whether a chair will be comfortable or not. Get the human proportions right, the aesthetics and comfort are quick to follow. Wrap it all up in sumptuous materials and meld them together with the finest, unyielding steel and the result is perfect: The Perfect Chair."

Designing the Dream

With the discipline and wisdom that can only come from years of experience, we carefully researched and selected each component and all the materials that would make our dream chair a reality. Aesthetically and technically, the Perfect Chair reflects Interactive Health's commitment to manufacture products of superior quality and value.

Aerospace Science and Ergonomics:
Not by coincidence, the body frame ergonomics are derived from the Zero-Gravity chaise position developed by NASA to support astronauts during their ascent into orbit. Modified for use in stationary applications and incorporating our patented Orthonomic™ lumbar curve, the Perfect Chair body frame is designed to provide years of comfort and can accommodate individuals weighing up to 300 lbs.

Natural Materials:
We chose some of the purest elements of nature - wood, leather and steel - and refined each of them to work in harmony. Our materials are carefully selected - then polished, matched or finished to obtain the highest level of luster and brilliance.

Environment:
We are proud that The Perfect Chair is produced in a harmonious manufacturing process that replenishes the planet with new resources to replace the old.

The Warmth of Wood

Havea Brasiliensis (the rubber tree), one of the strongest on earth, is the material we selected for producing our solid parawood base. The forty-two day process ensues after the rubber sap has been extracted from the tree. The trunks are cleaned, trimmed and milled to produce individual boards that are the foundation of the Perfect Chair's uniquely shaped legs.

Once cut to the proper length, the boards are laminated to ensure the proper thickness. Next, our woodsmiths begin to hand carve and sand each leg pattern until the perfect shape is produced. The wood is then carefully sanded, rubbed, stained and polished, by hand, to bring out the natural grain and beauty of the wood. Finally, the wood is coated with multiple layers of lacquer for protection and to further illuminate its elegant design.

A separate manufacturing process is utilized to assemble the high-tensile strength steel tubular body frame structure. Once the frame has been shaped to the specified zero-gravity chaise position, the steel frames are sandblasted, cleaned and powder coated with a protective surface that ensures a long life free from the debilitating effects of rust and humidity or corrosive salt air.

The Perfect Chair uses nickel-plated guide rails which form the semi-circle arcs that suspend the body frame from the legs. Solid plasma cut steel is formed and fitted to each leg assembly, and high precision, rubber covered ball bearing wheels are added to ensure a smooth, quiet glide when reclining. Reliability, strength and ease of use are guaranteed with a brake control system developed by Interactive Health (brake locks are produced by Mechlock™, a leading manufacturer of aerospace seating brakes).

The Luxury of Leather

Surrounding yourself in fine leather is the ultimate luxury. Selecting from only top grain hides from the U.S. and Italy, our leather is carefully measured, cut and sewn all under one roof. Beautiful French triple stitch patterns are sewn into our leather, and reflect the quality, time and effort each seamstress invests in the preparation of a single pad set.

Perfect Chairs are made in a variety of different leather colors, finishes and matches, including some rare and hard to find vegetable tanned and glass polished limited edition selections. No matter which one you choose, the leather's texture is soft to the touch and its hues are rich and inviting. When seated in the chair, you will feel cradled in comfort.

The Harmony of Natural Materials

Once in a while a product comes along that seems different. Something that not only serves its purpose, it redefines it. A product with craftsmanship that goes beyond the norm. Its design has a look that is everlasting. Something like this has only one word to describe it.
